Growing a new business, building brand awareness, or branding yourself doesn’t come in a day, but it does start with the first action – planting the seed.
From there, attention to care and additional small steps bring growth. Sometimes it is painfully slow, but it is there nonetheless. Make a plan and stay the course. You don’t water a seed once and quit. It is a practice that has to be repeated over and over again.
“You can plant a seed today, but you won’t eat tomorrow.” I heard this quote in a sermon last week. While it was meant for spiritual context, it is truth for so many of our life’s decisions. Professional relationships, friendships, marriages, parenting, our bodies and minds all need constant and intentional care to build habits that promotes real change. We know this. It’s no different in building a business.
You can plant a seed today,
but you won’t eat tomorrow.
I’ve plugged away at so many hobbyist and professional endeavors over the last 20-25 years, and while some of them didn’t pan out, I can look back on almost every one and see how they were sewn into a field of growth that has turned into the life I am living right now. The connections that I have, and the community that I draw from are all a result of my efforts of cultivating past endeavors.
I frequently focus on the bigger picture – knowing there’s more happening in this moment than what I see in front of me, while I reflect on past experiences where that proved to be true.
Give the benefit of a doubt and trust that your efforts to make yourself known are worthy even when they feel worthless. There are countless reasons why things don’t turn out like you’d hoped and most of it is out of your control, but trust that when you are driven to build, to grow, or to make change – consistency matters.
Stay the course, make connections, follow-up, develop a great plan and lean on the community that surrounds you to make it happen. Today is a great day to plant the seed.
